Delete Your Account

This page explains how to delete your Society Media account and the personal information associated with it, what is deleted, and what is retained. It applies to accounts created on the Society Media website or in the Society Media mobile app. It forms part of, and should be read together with, our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

1. How to delete your account

You may delete your account at any time by any of the following methods:

Deleting your account signs you out on every device. If you hold a Business License, it is canceled and you will not be charged again. Districts you founded remain open without a Founder until Makesbridge assigns a new Founder.

2. What is deleted

We delete your account data within 30 days of deletion. This includes your profile, your contacts and Hosted Contacts, your Narrative Voices, your library and the other content associated with your account, except as described in Section 3.

3. What is retained, and for how long

• Messages in shared conversations. Messages you sent in conversations with other people remain visible to the other participants, attributed to "Deleted member", unless you delete them before deleting your account.
• Earnings, payout and Terms-acceptance records are retained for at least 7 years.
• Declined applications and join requests are retained for 1 year after the decision. Content reports and moderation decisions are retained for 1 year after they are closed.
• Backups are retained for up to 35 days. Server logs are retained for 30 days. Analytics data is retained for 14 months.
• Call recordings are deleted 90 days after the call, unless published as a podcast, filed to Source Materials or used in a ReadyStack, in which case they are retained for as long as that remains so, as described in Section 8 of the Privacy Policy.
• Chat sessions (an AI conversation or a direct-message session) expire after 30 days, and their messages are deleted with them.
• Legal exceptions. We may retain information for longer where the law requires it, to settle payments and earnings owed, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our Terms. Deletion does not remove copies that other Members have already made or content already distributed or published by others. Stripe retains payment records under its own policies.

4. Deleting content without deleting your account

You may delete your own messages and posts at any time without deleting your account. When you delete a message or post, it is removed from view for everyone in the conversation and its text is erased, together with any files you attached to direct messages. We retain a record that it was sent, by whom and when. Notifications and email copies already delivered cannot be recalled.
